Assignment 3: Arena for a 5-minute game.

Assigned: Thu Sep 18
Due: Thu Sep 25

Audience:

Your classmates.

Objective:

  • To learn how to create a template/pattern.
  • To make a game with simple rules.

Goal:

Build a container, a kind of playing area for a game you create that can be played in 5 minutes. This can involve dice, small bits of paper. The rules must be very simple and can be based on existing games. The game must be able to be played with 2 people.

Medium:

Cardboard, poster board, card stock paper, pencil, x-acto knife or scissors, glue stick, tape and pieces for the game (you can borrow these or make them).

Suggestions:

Look at templates that are made for boxes on the Internet.

Use a #11 X-Acto knife to cut out your piece.

Think of the object of the game—is it rolling dice? Shooting marbles?

Research:

Play—think beyond the game board. This arena is created to contain the elements of the game thus think of tossing, rolling etc.

Here is a good templates page.

Here is a Google search for more templates: http://www.google.com/search?rls=en&q=templates+for+boxes

Finished size:

Use 8.5 x 11 sheets for the templates.

Final must fit on your desktop.

Writing:

Type out the name of your game and the rules on a piece of paper.
